Foundation Collections

The Mills Archive Trust was set up

As a charity in the UK (Registered Charity No 1091534)
To care for, develop and make available to the public over time four Foundation Collections

  • The extensive collection owned by the SPAB Mills Section
  • Three historically significant collections of mill-related material still in private hands

Public Access

Our first priority is to obtain sufficient funds to

Protect unique and vulnerable historical material in secure facilities
Allow users supervised access for detailed study of the original, often quite large documents

Much early funding is devoted to indexing and cataloguing

Until we have a sufficient endowment to secure the long-term future of an archive building

  • we are providing safe storage and where necessary conservation for our holdings
  • albeit with only limited direct public access
