Help us save the Memory!

We can only show a small fraction of what we have to offer. This site was launched with generous grants from the Heritage Lottery Fund and our trustees, totalling more than £60,000 ($100,000). We now need to secure our long-term future and develop our services.

Please help us to make even more available to you. We urgently need funds for housing, sorting and cataloguing the one and a half-million images and documents we have already been given or promised.

Please consider:

A large capital sum to put towards our building fund.
Providing proper accommodation and care for historically important and vulnerable material is expensive!

  A grant for specific purposes
The trustees prioritise cataloguing to make the best use of available resources. If you have a particular area of interest, you can ask us to prioritise our more relevant holdings by offering a grant to us for a specific project or purpose.

A smaller donation for our general purposes.
Our enthusiastic band of volunteers helps to keep costs down, but we also need funding for items such as scanners and computers and for contracting out some of the more specialist conservation and cataloguing work.

  A regular donation
We need regular income to cover our recurring costs such as rent, insurance and disposables (eg albums, archive boxes). Please help us to become self-sustaining!
Making A Financial Donation Joining The Friends

We are a registered charity based in the UK and subject to English law.

Following various expressions of interest, we have launched the “Friends of the Mills Archive”. The group is a worldwide community with an interest in the work of the Mills Archive and helps us to become self-sustaining.

The Friends have their own website which lists all the privileges of membership. To find out more click here.

Volunteering Your Time Leaving Us Your Collection

We are dependent on volunteers to get the most out of the Mills Archive. We seek help in two ways:

  • If you have basic computer skills and live near Reading in the UK please email us to discuss how you might contribute to our scanning and cataloguing programme. Any necessary training will be given.

  • If you have expertise in mills and milling please consider volunteering as one of our panel of remote indexers. This will involve using your own computer and Internet connection to link material into our indexes.

We are always grateful to be considered as the recipient for a collection; generous donations have created our existing Collection. Potential benefactors are encouraged to discuss any bequest, if necessary in total confidence, at an early stage with the Chairman of the Trustees who can provide advice on our collection policy. Please email us to discuss things further.
