How to use the Archive

To explore the Archive you will need to register by identifying your school, providing a valid email address and selecting a password. You can do this here.

To help you get the best out of the Archive catalogue, a selection of the Archive records has been identified as of educational significance. These are the ones that are returned when a search is carried out through the Resources page . If you require more detail or a wider search of the full Archive, then you may extend the search by simply clicking a button. Results from the initial search give educational captions, which may not feature in later, more comprehensive searches.

If by using the comprehensive search you find material that should be emphasised as having educational value there is as simple way to ask us to improve the information on the records in question. Our educational facilities will be regularly updated, although to do this we depend on both teachers and students providing feedback and suggestions.

The educational search engine (available on the Resources page) gives teachers and pupils:

    • Access to the main Archive databases through specially designed web pages
    • Simple searches to find selected content with appropriate educational captions
    • A facility to extend searches across the whole catalogue for more detail
    • Free downloads of images and information.
